Hilliard, OH – March 4, 2004 – RefCheckSM Information Services, Inc.
(http://www.refcheck.com) today announced that it has expanded its services in order to
assure greater peace of mind to parents, relatives, the elderly, and other consumers whose
children, family or friends find themselves in the care of organizations whose workforces
include pools of volunteers.

Zuni Corkerton, President of RefCheckSM, reports, “We’re personally committed to
protecting those who are most vulnerable—children, the elderly, and the MRDD
population—whether the volunteers with whom they come into contact are teacher
aides, volunteer coaches, summer camp counselors, volunteers assisting the elderly
in hospitals, nursing facilities or hospices, or others. Because historically some
organizations have not screened volunteers as meticulously as paid employees,
RefCheckSM, through its affiliation with National Background Data’s (NBD)
Safety 1st Volunteer Screening program, is pleased to be able to offer low cost screening
services for non-profits and others who rely on volunteers to deliver many of their
services.” With more cost effective screening services available, the decision to
fulfill one’s due diligence obligation to assure a safer, more secure environment for
our most vulnerable populations is now an easier one.
The program provides comprehensive reports from one of the largest private sector
criminal history databases in the nation. Criminal data from criminal courts, state
criminal record repositories, probation, prison parole and release files, sex offender
registries and other government agencies are searched, as well as additional criminal
history data that is proprietary to the NBD system. The screenings will also provide
results on the individuals’ previous addresses, maiden/married names associated with
a Social Security Number (SSN), and whether a SSN number is being used by other
individuals. “This information is invaluable in assuring all of us greater peace of mind,”
Corkerton added.
