Specialized skills can make a significant difference in the skills an individual brings to a position, and often a license or certification is required by law. Additionally, the salary, benefits, title and perquisites offered are often determined—at least in part—by an individual’s specialized licenses or certificates.
It is especially critical to confirm that individuals who will work or serve as volunteers in hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and in home health care have the requisite licenses/certificates, but it is no less important for attorneys,
accountants, teachers, pilots and others. This check verifies an individual’s professional licenses and/or certifications (such as MD, JD, RN, LPN, CPA, LISW, and Microsoft certifications). The information is obtained directly from licensing authorities or associations, and generally includes:
- Original issue date;
- Status;
- Sanctions (if any); and
- Expiration date, where applicable
