or consultants whose employees have been thoroughly screened, you’ve
recognized that it is just as important to screen them as it is to screen
candidates for employment. The risks associated with hiring vendors or
consultants with criminal records are the same as those for hiring employees with criminal records: the potential for claims of negligent hiring resulting from fraud, theft, or violence is just as great.
Absent a criminal record, it is still important to ask prospective vendors
and consultants for references; by checking references you can better
ensure that they meet your skills, qualifications, experience, and ethics
requirements, and most likely will meet your performance expectations.
